Wii games cost less to make, I don't think you can debate that. I don't think 'good' Wii games are as cheap to make compared to HD as some people on here like to believe, albeit we've no real solid figures other then saying 'they're cheaper'. Whether they're 50% the cost of a HD game, 75%, we don't know, it most likely varies on a case to case basis.
Marketing costs remain the same though, and that is always going to be a high figure. EA's budget for Madden in the USA is ~ $10 million every year, once EA start putting up the marketing budget people complain not enough games have an thus fail, then they need big sales. I'd argue that marketing on the Wii successfully costs more, but we've no solid figures, Ubisoft mentioned it in an article though.
Either way, if EA are going to make the games people want to see, they require big investments no matter what, and will always require strong sales to return. Those sales need to be at full retail price too, non of this super strong legs at retail cuts garbage.
Anywho, I'm sure EA will up support for the Wii looking at both the casual and core markets so to speak. However whether they're going to spend big on marketing a core Wii game, as oppose to a new MySims or fitness game... I'm not so sure, we'll see I guess.
EA's sales are hurt most by the recession anyway, it's lead to retailers being very very reluctant to buy big amounts of games, and that hurts all the publishers. one of these interviews on here mentions it, saying they had 400k for the new LOTR's game whereas in the past initial retail orders could be expected x2 that.
