I would imagine that if SCE wasn't consolidated so heavily that the PS brand would have faded by now, but then again, if that was the case I'm sure they wouldn't have taken such a large risk on loans alone.
Of course that's assuming that the PS3 was considered heavily a risk, some others seem to believe that Sony considered the market share to be theirs essentially for as long as they wanted it.
When it comes down to it, PS3 is much more similar to the Sega Saturn, just because of the hardware and software reasons, but again consolidation of those losses isn't something Sega had, so no PS3 isn't going anywhere in the forseeable future.
