The reasoning behind this is simple-Wii appeals more to 'casuals', who by definition, will not spend as much time or money involved in gaming when compared to the core, who so far, have been the main market of the HD console.(that's the article's reasoning, not my own reasoning, but I do closely agree with it)

Nintendo will announce big core titles to combat this, thusly driving profit, software sales and maintaing high hardware sales. That's what I think, anyhoo.

The problem is... the simplist reasoning isn't always the best.

I mean look at it from this angle.

Casual gamers buy less games per person right?

So who's more likely to need to cut down on their games budget?

The guy buying 1 game every 2 months?

Or the guy buying 2-3 games every month?

The "hardcore" gamer is more likely to be the one needing to make the gaming "sacrifice" and go back and do some retro gaming.

That combined with just a higher pricepoint in general... with Wii games often not even coming out at 50 dollars...

During a recession entertainment spending by a person usually doesn't go down unless it's excessive spending.

While your arguments make sense at first it actually misses the mark a bit. Neither of those two guys are only spending money on games, and the guy buying 2-3 games a month is more likely to continue buying 2-3 games a month and cut out other passtimes that he doesn't enjoy as much than a guy who enjoys other things more than gaming is likely to keep buying games. When it comes down to it, you don't cut spending on the things you enjoy most first.

However the thing is there are plenty of Wii owners that enjoy gaming as a top tier activity, and that is what most of those decrying it don't want to admit.

See i disagree with this because the person who buys 2-3 games a month usually doesn't spend much money on anything else... because they are hadrcore gamers.

I mean 2-3 games a month is a lot.

For example my gaming budget is seeing a cut because that's basically all I spend my money on as it is my main hobby.

I mean which hurts less... cutting down on one hobby or completly eliminating one that gives you variety in what you do?

I eliminated a lackluster hobby last year, so I dunno what to tell you... maybe you dont like gaming as much as you think you do?

Edit: also you kind of arent making alot of sense, first you say people that are hardcore don't spend money on other things, then you point out that you yourself have to cut down on your hardcore gaming budget to continue spending on other things...

Actually i don't spend on anything else outside of my girlfriend... and nessesities.

I'm just saying... for a lot of people... they can't just do one thing.  They need a variety.

The people who can.  Well they're probably MMO Players anyway.

When your trying to make up a deficit in funds, the easiest place to get money from is your largest expenditures.

Often times you HAVE to take from there at least a little to make it anyway.

I mean... when you need to save money... what is it you usually spend money on.  Usually the small luxuaries right?  You go "Well I shouldn't spend any money... but this is only like 5 dollars."

It's the same principle.
