The problem is... the simplist reasoning isn't always the best. I mean look at it from this angle. Casual gamers buy less games per person right? So who's more likely to need to cut down on their games budget? The guy buying 1 game every 2 months? The "hardcore" gamer is more likely to be the one needing to make the gaming "sacrifice" and go back and do some retro gaming. That combined with just a higher pricepoint in general... with Wii games often not even coming out at 50 dollars... During a recession entertainment spending by a person usually doesn't go down unless it's excessive spending. |
While your arguments make sense at first it actually misses the mark a bit. Neither of those two guys are only spending money on games, and the guy buying 2-3 games a month is more likely to continue buying 2-3 games a month and cut out other passtimes that he doesn't enjoy as much than a guy who enjoys other things more than gaming is likely to keep buying games. When it comes down to it, you don't cut spending on the things you enjoy most first.
However the thing is there are plenty of Wii owners that enjoy gaming as a top tier activity, and that is what most of those decrying it don't want to admit.
