Some group of thinking people told you 2 years ago that it wouldn't happen.
Now, in Europe, that's basically the situation (XB360 arcade for 150 € and Wii still at 250 €), and it doesn't happen.
I can only put that on wishful thinking.
In Europe, you can get a XB360 with games for less than a DS, and the DS still wildly outsells the XB360.
Same for Wii where it's even worse.
So some people are still in denial phase.
