I want to get peoples opinions on wether they believe the Ps3 will eventually meet the same fate the Sega Dreamcast did back in 2001...

I have a Ps3 and had a 360(sold it) great system also....since Ps3 sales numbers have been horrible in the past couple of months and Sony posting HUGE losses financially. Do you believe the Ps3 will be haulted in Production and abandoned if this year is not good for it?

i have yet to see horrible numbers.

Guess you missed holiday 08

No I didn't miss Christmas (not holiday) 2008, in fact I saw some great numbers. Considering its a $400/$500 console and you can buy an arcade for half the price its selling amazing. The only consoles I can think of that were as expensive at launch as the PS3 are the 3DO which sold 2 million LTD and the Neo Geo. So pretty remarkable its doing so well.

That's some remarkable spin, are you sure your name is not Tucker Bounds? "We will win Virginia and have a real shot an Pensylvania"

Let's face it, Playstation was by far the market leader in the last generation. It is now being outsold 2:1 in the MOST IMPORTANT time of the year. There is a reason they call the friday after thanksgiving "black friday". This is when most retails go from the red into the black because they make a majority of their sales. The whole year builds up to that point. Yet, in that time not only did Sony lose by around 5:1 to Nintendo, they lost basically 2:1 to MS. These are the two console makers that only got a fraction of the market last generation.

"Bu bu bu bu price cut!!!1111!1!!!"

Yes, it had an impact. Yes, the economy had an impact. But, if people still wanted a ps3 very badly over the other two systems, they would have gotten it. Not only that, the whole of Sony is running itself into the ground. Trying to spin this into good news is folly. There is no good news this generation for sony. It does not matter if it is selling well at its price, what matters is if you are either recouping your investment (almost impossible at this point for sony, starting to make a profit and recouping the cost of development are two very different things) or grabbing an increased market share, also impossible at this point. Without either of those two things, a market leader being relegated to fighting hard for second place is a dismal and utter failure.

And, I am not saying PS3 is anything like dreamcast, it is more like Gamecube without the profit.
