| Just2Fresh said: Im really likin the responses Im getting....As for those people saying OH NO NOT THIS THREAD AGAIN...Um how am I suppose to know this thread was put up millions of times? Im new here first of all...and Second of all I have a life I go to work and School I dont sit around reading threads all day...I just wanted peoples opinion and thier POV.... @Bodece Your on the same track I am...because Im not saying the Ps3 is going to be like the Dreamcast right not in a blink of an eye...Im statin that if the sales numbers do not pick up and they start making a PROFIT of the system I feel like they would cease production and abandone the system... They have already lost alot of their party exclusives which they had previously ruled over...RE5...FF13...GTA 4... The question Im asking is not so far fetch as to be accounted as "impossible" actually I believe its very possible....If your not making a profit of a product your selling...how long will you continue to support it? I love my Ps3 I feel like its the best since the power in the little SOB :) (Im a power junkie) lol...but I think companies going to have to learn its not always about power...its about the games...every generation had the system with less graphical abilities beat out the more "powerful" system.... Example Wii>Ps3 and 360 Ps2>Xbox Ps1>N64 Snes>Sega Ok that last one you can really argue it lol |
Here, I'll provide you all with some numbers.
VGChartz Hardware data for the period 11th Nov 2006 to 24th Jan 2009:
| Console | X360 |

Total

22,741,801

Note: Nov. 11th is the PS3 Japan Launch date, it was launched on the 17th in NA, and Europe and other PAL territories and other regions on March 23, 2007.
By contrast the 360 in its first year on the market, the system launched in 36 countries, more countries than any console has launched in a single year.[*wikipedia]
Suffice to say, on December 2005 the Xbox 360 had launched on all major territories, it was virtually a WW launch.
PS3 sold today (VGC numbers) roughly 20 million retail sales.
Despite the 360 having a 1 year lead in NA/Japan, and 1.4 year lead in Europe/Others when comparing both systems sales from the point both were available at the same time I can argue the PS3 is slightly doing better (when I consider sales from EU didn't exist until 5 months after the first launch). And the 1/1.4 year lead has helped the X360 , obviously, in market penetration and the ability to drop the price first, even when it was already cheaper than the PS3.
This by no means is something to be proud of for a company that was the king of videogaming, but since I'm on topic, I'll leave it at that saying : the Dreamcast didn't do that.
