It certainly deserves to go the way of the Dreamcast, the way Sony has ran it into the ground, but no. It has survived up to this point on brand name and RRoD fear alone, and it's at an unbelievably high price point.

Now that the console is on the verge of a major price cut, and it's finally starting to get some respectable exclusives, I don't think it has anywhere to go but up.

Again, though, it certainly deserves to ruin the company, for what they have done to the playstation brand.

That brand is the only think that kept the console afloat. Most of you here bought the PS3 because of the brand, and not the games. That brand saved the console. To be more precise, consumer ignorance and PS2 marketing from 5 years ago saved the console.

Is that an incorrect assessment?

Finally getting respectable exlusives? Are you including 2008 in this "finally" because that was only the 2nd year of the console and saw a ton of great exclusives come out for PS3.

I think what you aren't connecting is that the brand is connected to first party games. It's the same as all the Nintendo fanboys buying whatever Nintendo puts out because of Mario and Zelda. Yes, I originally kept a launch PS3 (sold 1) because of the games I knew would be exlusive, like MGS4 and GoW3. That's loyalty to a brand, if you want to call it that, but it's more loyalty to games series you know you like. I did think FF13 would be exclusive as well, but Versus still is so that still applies.

Edit:  I might have sold my PS3 and bought it later if it wasn't for Resistance, which I enjoyed quite a bit at the time.  Games aren't scarce, so it's not just loyalty to Sony.  I have a Samsung TV, too, heh.
