published and developed are two different things, and dont bring up the whole "Does Sony look at the games they publish?" thing as all 3 companies dont look at their second party games, they just publish them and hope to get a big pay off. |
What are you talking about?
Second party developers recieve tons of resources (financial and technical) from their publisher in order to produce high quality profitable games. It was a common event to have Miyamoto (or other Nintendo producers) visit Rare, Retro and Silicone Knights and give input on the games they were developing whilst these developers were second party developers for Nintendo; one of the main reasons that Metroid Prime so closely resembles Zelda and (in ways) Mario was from direct input from Miyamoto.
The only reason companies like Nintendo, Microsoft and Sony enter into second party relationships with developers is to secure high quality exclusive games; if they do not influence the outcome of the game they are certainly not doing their job.
