Quake 3 was a good game engine for it's time though.

 

UT was just a better MP component of Unreal. Since then it really doesn't need a sotry at all. Its gameplay however is what counts and UT2004's is still the best MP shooter in existance. Now if UT3 hadn't fucked up with the core mechanics (WTF!? you die with ONE FUCKING ROCKET?! What was Epic even thinking?).
