I haven't read the thread all the way through (sorry!) so forgive me if this has been mentioned already, but while it's a nice theory IGN's latest podcast (in the opening minutes) says that this game's Wii version (at least) has been finished for a while now, while the HD versions are not.

I think that probably has more to do with the releases than your theory.

IGN isn't half as reliable as they like to think they are (or we'd all be finished playing Kid Icarus by now) however if that's true (an HD version is still being developed) that would kinda blow my theory or at least this example.  So in that case they're releasing the Wii/PSP/DS versions and using the money to fund the HD version's extra long development cycle?   I wonder how that would affect sales of the HD version.    Long delayed ports often sell poorly (Bioshock).  Of course the HD version might be significantly different, but even still, the lack of 'newness' might hinder sales when it releases.  Seems questionable.

Until I see something official I'll put this under 'rumour' with Kid Icasus.

I think you're underselling IGN's reliability myself, but that's a topic for another time. Give the podcast (the Wii one, that is) a listen and judge for yourself; as I said, it's within the first few minutes.

I get the impression that the HD version is now dead, and they're just releasing what's already finished.
