Still, FE doesn't hold a candle to Golden Sun in my book, and Camelot is making an as yet unnamed Wii RPG which should turn out to be Golden Sun. |
You just lost yourself a lot of respect. |
Oh come on, FE is great, but it's got it's got a lot of balance issues. From an RPG fan standpoint, Golden Sun is a much more balanced and polished experience. It's not that I in anyway disliek FE, but I wish they would fix some of the major problems. Until they do, Golden Sun is better. |
Golden Sun lacks interesting characters and their development is practically nonexistant. The combat system of GS is very basic and boring and the absolutely unnecessary text messages are annoying, why didn't they just use hitpoints on the screen? Graphics, sound and dungeon design are good, but the shortcomings in story and combat hurt the game. The first game had some original things, but the second didn't improve much on it. Fire Emblem gives a huge number of different characters to choose from to form your own team, all with different strength and weaknesses. All characters have more background story than each of the GS characters. However, you learn most of the FE in the support conversations, so you can't learn everything about them in one playthrough. Each chapter in FE requires different strategies, you have to rearrange your team accordingly. The combat system in FE is of course much deeper than in GS because it's a strategy RPG. Mediocre graphics, but great soundtrack. Gameplay > Graphics. FE > GS. Well, not really good to compare the games anyway because one is a regular RPG and the other a strategy RPG. But don't say GS is more balanced and polished, it's not. If you disagree, then I will... I don't know, probably accept your opinion. |
I would prefer not to bash Fire Emblem in it's own topic, so I'm just going to say I disagree. My score for FE:PR is about an 8.7. My score for Golden Sun is about a 9.0. Not a huge difference, but I still prefer Golden Sun. I would like FE to shake up the formula a bit. PoR was a little bit too true to the gameplay formula of the GBA games for my tastes. Again, I am in no way saying it's a bad game, I just think it had a few issues that bothered me. |
Of course, we all have our opinions about things, and you're welcome to say what you like or dislike about it. Just be aware that you're more than likely to start a debate.
I've never played Golden Sun before, unfortunately. And yes, I do agree that Fire Emblem does have quite a few balancing issues, mainly with the classes.
