I would say to get Killzone 2.
I love the Star Ocean series, have since I played SO2 on the PS1. Your problem here is that if you get Valkyria and Star Ocean around the same time your bound to have one or the other end up collecting dust while the other is being played. This has happened to me for years now, yet I keep doing it. -.-
Killzone 2 however will fit well into a mix like that because it is a game you could just pick up and play at any given moment, the same can not be said for JRPGs. I have so much trouble if I try to play more than one at a time.
In the end though, just get which ever you want. I do not know which you will enjoy more, but what I do know is that if you do not currently have a job and money is going to be tight, wouldn't you be better off with something that has multiplayer?
