As for the N64, sources such as 1up, EGM, IGN, Nintendo Power and other credible sources have backed up my claim about Miyamoto. But if Sponge says otherwise then they MUST be right. N64 released because it was time for their next console. It wasn't made to prove Sony was wrong about the CD format. Developers even thought Nintendo would be using that format AFTER the PS released. But hey remember when Square was supporting the N64? This was after the release of PSX and they planned to make their RPGs using CDs. That means at one point the use of CDs for N64 was possible and most likely a topic floating around the Nintendo offices. Like I said, I wont really get into this too much because it's impossible to know for sure unless you talked to the people that made the decisions, but there is really no need to act like a condescending asshole and try to prove me wrong over something you're not sure about. And for the record, I do know what I'm talking about, as I've backed up everything I've said with credible sources. |
I appologize if you felt insulted by my statement. Well thanks for the link, I hadn't seen that story. I agree that it was a helpful thing for Sony to do, but again remember that Square was making Sony games exclusively at the time, and helping keep Square alive is still a mutually beneficial agreement. It was hardly a selfless gift.
It wasn't just little sites that explained why the N64 was the way it was. You gave one 1UP link, which quoted the official press statement. An official press statement is not always the way things are. Sony officially put Blu-ray in the PS3 because they think it's necessary for games. However, it's not hard to see that they put Blu-ray in the PS3 to help them in their format war with HD-DVD (which so far it has been very successful at). You aren't going to find that on 1UP, but that doesn't mean it's not true.
I don't know if you were gaming during that time or not, but if you paid much attention it was a well known barely below the surface fact that Nintendo's reasoning for cartridges had nothing to do with game development. It's not something I'm unsure about... it's not something anyone who paid attention during that time is unsure about. You are going on an official press statement from a company trying to hide it's bad decisions. That's like believing that Ken Kutaragi actually restired, and wasn't fired for the PS3 issues and costing his company more than $2 billion in losses. Of course that's not how it will be recorded in history, and I'm sure 10 years from now someone will be telling me that Ken retired on good terms for his own reasons with a 1UP link just like yours. Well, maybe not a 1UP link, they are about to go bankrupt lol. Cartridges in the Nintendo 64 were a Yamauchi decision, and ultimately led to his resignation.
