yea i agree.. thats the reason i bought a 360 was for GEARS of WAR... seeing that commercial on tv i knew right then i was gettin it... yal remember that song ?? all around me were some worn out faces worn out faces worn faces.lol any way i am buying uncharted drakes fortune as of right now but its definitely not hyped like gears of war was ..

You have no idea how much i agree with you about 'mad world' selling that game. :P Sony's advertising is worse then sh*t when compared to microsofts. and it not being as hyped doesn't make it's content inferior. Gears was the first real 'generation definer' and showcase of the unreal engine 3, of course it was going to hog the limelight.

I'm sorry, but you are absolutely wrong about UT3. Its fanbase is on the PC. Not on the PS3. While you mention that you think that its timed exclusivity will get people to buy the system, i don't understand how you can call spending at least $600 dollars an instant gratification or impulse buy. It doesn't work that way.

Your right in that it was extremely stupid of me to forget about the PC version holding it's fanbase. Your wrong about it no't contributing to sales and your wrong in interpreting what I'm saying to be "impulse buying". Not everyone will have a PC capable of playing UT3, not everyone will even have played UT. however, people will be buying consoles this holiday season and they're seeing a big name game like unreal tournament on the ps3 shelf will contribute to their decision to purchase the console. Besides, at some of the rates I've been seeing in stores, the ps3 might just be the cheaper option then a PC upgrade as you still have mods and keyboard/mouse support.. however you are right in that it was horrendously wrong of me to assume that the pc base would jump ship in significant numbers, for that i do apologize.

I really have to disagree with the Gears comment. Quality is subjective (me personally, thought it was the first game that made me really say wow on the 360), but there is so much more to being a "Gears-level" game. There's hype, there's insane marketing budgets, and a really strong word of mouth. So far, UT3 and Uncharted don't have those. Hype is no where near where Gears was, and UT3 has a segmented userbase between PS3 and PC, with a version confirmed for 360. And MS really pushed Gears because it was its most talked about "it" game for that season. Uncharted is part of steady stream of new IP from Sony with a good chance of being high-quality, but it's not being marketed as THE game for the PS3.

As for next year, I think that MGS4 and Killzone 2 will certainly get more sales for the PS3 than it is now, but keep in mind that 2 to 2.5 years of software won't suddenly disappear for the 360, and unless PS3 has a Wii-level miracle jump, sales lost during Christmas season can almost NEVER be made up during the early part of the year. Another factor is that MS really concentrated on games that were coming out this year at E3 (well, games they THOUGHT were coming out this year, anyway), so I really feel we haven't seen half of what they have for 2008. Plus, I personally have strong doubts about how strong of a game Killzone 2 really is. It didn't exactly light the charts on fire in America, and it's quality was at best, slightly above average. Killzone 2 might turn out amazing, but I tend to believe that sequels are viewed through their predecessors and how they thought of that game.

I agree with what you say about gears and i hope i covered the most of it above.

As for mgs and killzone, of course it won't disappear but i don't think they will necessarily count for much. who is still talking about perfect dark, chromehounds or even the more recent crackdown? the only older game that i currently recognize as having serious staying power and weight in sales is gears, which will probably live on until gears 2. I really don't think library size will matter all that much this season, atleast not nearly to the extent it's mattered during pswii's first 10 months. it's my opinion (uh oh) that people will be watching the titans wrestle rather then counting foot-soldiers. I'm sorry, i realize it's distressingly unfair for me to say "well it's my opinion so that's that".

As for microsofts early 2008 end of gaming season line up, yes i agree they probably do have a few games up their collective sleeves, they most certainly have more then a few big announcements concerning fall 2008. (even though i love fable to bits, it can't hold ground alone)I'm not convinced we will see many high caliber games as the season winds down into the spring and people can go outside again. they might pull a fast one, but i can't really factor in data i don't have.

MS has another big event coming right? we'll know more then. hey, maybe they'll try something at the tokyo games show to try to build their asain market.
