This isn't isolated to the Wii ... If you take away sequels to popular franchises and games that have massive marketing campaigns, very few games (regardless of the platform) sell more than a million units.

I never said it wasn't 0_o. I do find the trend more common on Wii then other consoles but it's always going to be common on any platform. It seems to me like Wii games NEED that brand recognition more so then any console has before, PS360 have formed alot of new successful IP's this gen with Resistance, Mass Effect, Bioshock, Motorstorm, Assassin's Creed etc.
Equally no new IP's on Wii have had that highish level of quality or effective amount of marketing yet (Except Boom Blox). Once third parties start trying to do something like that though, it becomes higher risk, and 500000k can quickly become too small of a figure to cover costs, especially if retail cut the price half way into reaching that figure.
It'd be nice to have some solid figures for marketing in video games, I've no doubt in my mind that marketing is more important on the Wii and that a 'good' PS360 game can get away with low marketing if they handle the media hype correctly.
