No, Wii was a runaway success from the launch in November 2006. Back then the economy was still good. Besides 360 is now cheaper (Arcade) than the Wii, so the price is clearly not the reason for the success.
You can argue about what 3rd party games sell better (shooters will sell better on PS360, I'm sure) but it's clearly a mistake to assume that only minigames sell. Shaun White, Tiger Woods are examples of Sports games that sell better on Wii. Platformers, lightgun, point & click, puzzlers all sell better on Wii. You might not like these genres, but they're definitely core-games.
But again: most important is that 3rd parties do earn a lot of money on Wii and that for 2009 the 3rd party offerings on Wii have increased dramatically and we'll only see more, especially from Japan. Do expect 80% of the console JRPGs this gen to be on Wii.
For someone that already games for 17 years you have quite a narrowminded view on gaming. If you were a REAL hardcore gamer you would definitely like the Wii WITH one of the HD consoles, since it has a lot of (exclusive) games that a real gamer would appreciate. A REAL hardcore gamer would enjoy the games, instead of whining about graphics for 2 years. A REAL hardcore gamer would applaud Nintendo for making their hobby more accessible to others and expanding the gaming business so much.
