No faction... I just don't understand the hype this game has recieved so far. It looks in most respects to hold its own as a first person shooter. It appears to do everything well enough, while still being unremarkable in almost every regard. On any other console, many Wii owners would call The Conduit a generic FPS, disregarding it as another brown/grey shooter. When High Voltage makes the same sort of FPS thats been appearing on the x360/ps3/pc for years but on the Wii it recieves ungodly amounts of praise. If controls and customization are the pivotal difference between this and the ocean of other FPS games, does that really bode well for the game itself? |
In terms of features (apart from graphics) it seems about on par with the high tier of the rest of the generic shooters on the PS360 yes.... but haven't you noticed the shooters on those consoles also recieving hype?
Without going into important things like level design, there are really just two differences between your moderately high quality FPS on the other systems.... one being the graphics and the other being controls. So why should The Conduit recieve any less hype than Resistance 2 or CoD:WaW.
Given that the PS3 and 360 get more than their fair share of very similar games, surely The Conduit shoud be recieving more hype.... In fact if 50% of reviewers didn't view the Wii as dirt just 'because' it probably would be recieving more hype. but as it is it's just a select few.
Personally I don't care for my FPS games to be so serious, I like big-head modes and paintball and monkeys shooting robot fish.... but given that TimeSplitters is one of very few to have not gone in the Halo/Killzone direction I am a bit out of options... especially if Free-Radical dissapear.
And as such, I don't buy many FPS.

So yes, the major difference between this and the ocean of other FPS is indeed the controls and customisation.... and yes it is important. AFter all what do other shooters have that make them stand out?
