If you don't mind my asking, which FPS's on Wii have you played? Secondly, how much time and effort did you put into familiarizing yourself with the controls? Third, did you adjust the cotnrols to fit your liking? My 2nd point can bd related to back in the days when analog control first hit the market. It took most people I knew, myself included, a little while to adjust to the sensitivity and loseness of analog control. Once my thumb was trained well enough, I could easily perceive its superiority over digital d-pads for many games. With the Wii, the same effect happens. If you don't put much time and effort into training yourself, you will likely not enjoy the experience and find it lacking. For those that have learned both control input methods, IR control has clearly surpassed the quality of control found in dual analogs. Try Metroid Prime 3, Medal of Honor 2: Heroes or Call of Duty: World at War on Wii and give it some honest subjectivity and effort and I'm highly encouraged that you will find the IR controls to be superior. OT: The level of customization is insane. That alone just shows what kind of effort these guys are putting into this game. They create a custom engine on their own dime, put unwavering faith in the Wii user base, hire Hollywood voice actors on their own dime, customize features and controls unprecedented in home console titles and add some innovative gameplay elements such as the ASE. Wish that one video didn't have that annoying green frame pop up every 30 frames or so. |
Well I only really have Metroid Prime3 to go on (RE4 being similar but not exactly FPS) but I really didn't need much time to get used to it at all.... it could be the slower pace of MP3 compared to a multiplayer FPS though.
As for getting used to analogue... my pre-N64 experience had been pretty much solely racing games... so for the most part I took to the control stick well. but my very first N64 game was F1 World GP2, and it took me a long time to switch from d-pad to control-stick for it because I was stubborn.
(in hindsight this stubborness may have given my N64 control stick a little longer to live, as it is quite loose nowadays)
