My favorite game of all time happens to be Sonic & Knuckles. It's the fantastic ending to the Saga that Sonic 2 started with the Death Egg, and wow what an ending. I'd have to disagree with Carl in that S&K's final boss completely decimates Sonic 2's final encounter with Robotnik (you know you have a classic Sonic game when they call him Robotnik 
).
Plus, Sonic & Knuckles holds my favorite video game moment of all time: Sky Sanctuary Zone. The music, the atmosphere, the boss... it's just comes together to create something truly magical.
