It's shocking how propaganda can shape your perceptions. I imagine most people believe the PS3 is much more graphically capable than the 360, and it very well might be. However, that opinion is based mostly off of Sony's PR and word of mouth via Sony faithful, than actual comparison.
Ironically, the most graphically capable game out so far this gen on a console has been Gears of War 2, an Xbox 360 exclusive. Of course that will all change with Killzone 2, but again, most people believe that the PS3 is the massively powerful graphics machine simply because Sony says so, and they validate that acceptance by pointing to the price. Why is it so expensive if it doesn't blow the competition out of the water graphically?
