Do we count fighting games as beat-em-ups?
Dead or Alive is a fighting game. Are they the same genre or different?
"Beat 'em up" sure isn't very specific-sounding.
I just realized I'm not contributing anymore so I will try harder.
Why, yes! It does sound like different games are popular now, as if different audiences are becoming engrossed in the medium. The shift will not seem like much taken in aggregate because of the way things average out, but I feel the winds a-blowin'.
