I can't count the number of average shooters from PS360 that sell well on my fingers....yes this is a generic FPS from what I can tell, but so are the rest. The difference is there are dozens of them on the other systems and for some reason people buy more than 1... I like FPS but because many are the same I have only bought 5 in total. (and was dissapointed with 1 of them.
Besides that I wonder how it would actually sell. I keep getting told that FPS games are boring and generic and that's all there is on HD consoles, so I assume that most Wii owners won't be picking it up? True, most Wii owners won't pick it up, but something I can count on my fingers is the number of games with a 50:1+ attach ratio ... but I do believe it will limp past 1 million, which isn't too bad. If it is truly great and reviewed really well (unlikely as it is trying to appeal to people like those reviewers who rate graphics equally to gameplay) then it could be a multimillion seller.
Oh and another thing, FPS with the Wii-mote isn't that great. It's extremely loose and turning is generally awkward. When the reticule is fixed in the centre of the screen it's a hell of a lot easier to aim and keep it on the enemy than it is with the Wii-mote. First of all, I agree with this to a point... the problem I think lies in the importance of strafing in modern FPS. which means strafing has been solidly mapped to the control stick, and there is no function left to perform turning other than using bounding box pointing. My suggestion almost 2 years ago though was to have the control stick perform turning (which is my preffered set-up on FPS anyway... I like strafe to be on the other control stick to forward/back movement) but from my experience with SSX Blur (which has excellent controls) I jumped upon the idea of putting strafe onto the tilt-sensing of the nunchuck, so tilting left and right strafes left and right.
Second of all, I think if you pause the second video at 2:04.... it is cycling through a few different camera options... the one at 2:04 gives details of what seems to be what I described... ie you steer with the control stick, and it doesn't matter where you aim on the screen, the camera doesn't move with it. Which means it is like a light gun shooter in that you aim where you want, but like an normal FPS in terms of you control the movement.
I just find it funny that you're all hyping up a generic online FPS. I bet I can find a quote from most of you saying how much you hate them.
I am currently "settling" for The Conduit, but in truth I would much prefer TimeSplitters or something with less serious a premise.... although If The Conduit has a version of the control scheme I decribed above and TS4 didn't... I think I would prefer The Conduit. THAT is how much the right Wii control scheme means to elevate this shooter above it's generic story.
