I can give you three good reasons to buy a DS.

One is the price. It is the cheapest system this generation, as Nintendo's handhelds always are. But the Software is where the price really hits the mark. 20-40 dollars a game will really make you feel good when you walk into the store and have a limited budget. When you realize you want more than one game, but only $50 dollars to spend, you can buy 3 great games for the same price as that 1 great game for a console.

Two is the Ratio. While the console war is flaming, nearly every company is focusing some major attention on the DS. And this attention has given the DS a ratio of a large amount of games while still having more than its fare share of good games. In other words, its got the closest ratio of quality to quantity this generation.

Three, is the software. While the three consoles and the PSP, for lack of the better explanation, are either focusing on other markets or 'gimmicks', the DS has stayed purely about its software of games. Even with the Touch features and some ideas like 'Brain Training', none of this has deterred the system from having some of the best games this generation.

In short, I believe the DS is the system that has won this Generation. Yes, a handheld has dug so much into the third party market and even Nintendo's own Wii market that it has effected them all. And therefore, its the dominant Console this generation. Yes, console.

Oh, and btw.  There's a slight chance anyone reading this who is actually thinking about buying a DS might want to think about waiting.  Since the DSi is coming out sometime soon.  But that's up to you.
