Back in the 90s when CD-Rom games were becoming the norm, a lot of games had FMV (full motion video). Gameplay mixed with FMV cutscenes of real life actors. At the time FMV was pegged to be the future.
The first game comes to mind is Sega's 'Night Trap' for the sega CD. On the 3DO I played quite a few games that were FMV and the best one was Wing Commander III (it starred Luke skywalker
). Between the space fights, wing commander III was very FMV heavy indeed. But most other games with FMV were just rubbish. Resident Evil on the PS1 had some FMV scenes but that was a class game.
I just played Need for Speed: undercover for Xbox 360 and that too has FMV with some hot women and cars but to me it just seems pointless (pointless game also
). I really want to see real-time cutscenes of the game engine like MGS does and Killzone II suppose to do. Is they still a future for FMV in games ??
