It's not that hard to do elementary algebra either.

Obviously figuring out the current gap, or the gap for any given week would be a very simple matter.  But as I said earlier, to create your own chart that could span years would be very time consuming.  Obviously some members have already gone about mining the data needed for such charts or are maintaining a spreadsheet whenever new data comes out, but things aren't always up to date with the occasional adjustments to past data.

The option of new charts that allow the selecting 1, 2, or 3 systems(or games for that software matters) and comparing them to another 1, 2, or 3 systems(making generation comparisons a bit easier) would be quite interesting.  Making sales data available for download is another option, but could be extremely taxing on the servers depending on how it's implemented.  Or nothing could be done, and anyone interested would have to find a way to get the data themselves as others obviously already have.

I dont think it would be a burden on the system as it would simply rely on the existing data. Also even though we can calculate all that manually, its very tedious and time consuming. Adding a chart like this should be relatively easy, associated with a huge benefit!

My point was if the only option was to download ALL figures it would become a burden.  As people might download everything all over again every few weeks to make sure adjustments are accoutned for.  I was also thinking along the lines of software data being available, for which there is obviously more than hardware.  So if the data were made available for download it would have to be handled well to keep redundancy down.  As much as I'd like to be able to obtain all the data for myself to make all sorts of comparisons, I think it would be best as a new chart here on the site.

But as Oyvoyvoyv said, there's other problems that should be taken care of first.  This is a great idea, but would really just be a nice extra feature.
