Hey man I love Bob but dude, get with the times, that quote was from 2007 and early 2007, granted Iwata has been saying it for way too long.
But bend twist turn or whatever.
In the end all he is saying is that Nintendo is innovating, and views Microsoft and Sony as Copycat companies, they don't want to compete with copycats as that's a sinking ship. If you go to Nintendo's webpage and check about Nintendo, they state themselves to be the "Worlds leading innovator..." this means, no competeing, because it's not innovation if your innovation is competing the moment of release to the market with another product.
Innovation attracts new customers - that's all he's saying and these customers are the ones that are indifferent towards games, they are so because the copy cats are trying to fight for the same customers in the same old ways that Nintendo had already established back with the SNES and N64. =P
