I guess we will never know but I do believe if PS3 was the only console with high quality Resident Evil 5, Final Fantasy 13, GTA4 and other HD software...which Xbox and Wii were getting downgraded ports or not getting them at all, it would have sold much much better. There is still a large number of developers (most top tier ones actually) that don't want to emprace motion contols and want to keep pushing the visual gaming. So all these games coming to PS3 would have pushed the console sales, despite the price... Not to mention the gamers that prefer standard controls. As far as Ipod customers being loyal, I stand by that statement. A lot of the Ipod userbase is on their 3rd or even 4th gen ipods. Apple has a notorious tendancy to release something new every year plus they dont really last that long (I had 2 of them break on my in a year timespan) so they are like fast food of mp3 players. However the userbase will rarely stray from Ipods (or any product) after so many generations of buying it.

Motion controls can add alot to a core gaming experiance. That is why so many people are annoyed that there are not to many for the Wii right now. Mario Galaxy and MP3 are perfect example on how motion controls enhance core games in a way you would only undertrand if you played them. That is why there are so many people hoping that the Conduit is really good. Wii controls are fun, in fact more fun than a standard pad for core games if done right (the key here). Also maybe you forgot by the Wii does work with a standard controller for certain games that do work best with a traditional controller (Brawl says hi)
So basically your argument comes down to, it all about graphics, and to tell you the truth, this is not the 90's anymore where EVERYTHING is about more power (recalls the endless arguments about which consoles could push the most polygons last gen). Yea, there are still some people stuck in the past... who think better graphics are the end all, and guess what? They are the ones financially hurting right now... Look at take 2 and EA, pumping out great HD games, and barely making a dime.
Graphics have reach a point where they are a luxory not a neccessity in games, and the Wii only goes to proves this. There is a reason many people still whip out their old NES and play some Excitebike or SMB3... They were just plain fun.
