That flies in the face of the sale projections Sony gave for the PS3 at launch.
Sony expected 5 to 6 million units sold to retail by the 1st of April 2007. That's something they could afford, yet expensive.
The Wii sold a little short of 6 million to retail by that time as well. But later Wii sales sky rocketed when production of the console went full steam, that's something Sony couldn't have afforded to maintain on par with sales wise. (Wii's are cheap and relatively easy to manufacture, profitable)
