What do you mean? The console sold OK, it outsold the much overhyped 360 sales taking equal time frames.
And no, Sony couldn't have afforded selling at Wii like levels early on (at least not at 500 or 600 dollars, maybe at 800 to 900 dollars they could have). That would have costed billions extra without enough software sales revenue to balance the hardware investment costs.
