Installing the Wii Homebrew channel (the post just above yours) basically makes the Wii region free (once you install Gecko OS on this channel).
For that, you need a Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess game though, and a SD card.
I wouldn't take the risk to mod my Wii, given the console's features.
