Last I checked the Wii owners were still majority male too but I don't think there's anything wrong with it having equal appeal amongst women.

They may be lame to you, but they're certainly more interesting to young girls than Zelda or whatever you may enjoy.

This is something of a bad example - Zelda is one of the most popular core series when it comes to appealing to the female demographic.
