From a business standpoint don't you think it would make more sense to develop a game on the console that has a higher attach rate and costs less to develop for(360 is easier to develop for than ps3 = less man hours = less $ to develop).  I think the recession might actually help microsoft as they have the price advantage, bigger install base, lower development costs, and more growth in key markets. 

 

the current gap is realitivly small.  This gen is not even half over yet and the gap between the 360 and PS3 could easily be overtaken and as well could double. (the later is extremely unlikley).  The Wii is a perfect example of why your theory doesn't work.  The Wii is killing both HD consoles and look at the crap games it is getting.

I don't know where you get more growth in key markets.  All the 360 has done is matched its key markets from the original xbox.  The only console that has had more growth in key markets is unfortunatly the Wii.
