How do you know that the Japanese are RPG-obsessive? Uh, because for some strange reason White Knight Chronicles has outsold Metal Gear Solid 4 in Japanese software sales despite its horrid reviews from Famitsu (who scored the game 27/40 - Haze received higher praise). Not saying the game sucks in any way - I haven’t played it myself. But outselling MGS4 is a big deal to me. It is one of the only games that had me crying a bit aside from Final Fantasy X. Just a bit.
I’m not going to degrade White Knight Chronicles, though, regardless of what Famitsu says. I’m still going to get the game and try my hardest to savor the taste of an RPG touching the PS3’s foundation. I will force myself to enjoy it simply because I’ve had high expectations for this game as I did for Blue Dragon, sadly. Although whether or not White Knight Chronicles will sell hardware here in the states as it did in Japan is truly unknown. But I am expecting solid sales on the home front only because PS3/RPG fans haven’t had the chance to embrace this genre in contrast to the PS2.
Will I bad-mouth the game if it isn’t to my expectations? Bet your ass I am. I will take the Blu-ray disc, slam it on my nearest table, and continuously head-butt it beyond belief until either the game or my skull cracks first. But, again, I know the game will kick ass… at least I hope it will for the sake of my over-sized cranium.
