First of all, diversity has nothing to do with the name of the franchises... there is no way anyone can say Wii Sports, Fit, Play, Music and Mario Kart Wii are alike.
Simiarly, Mario Kart Wii, Super Mario Galaxy, Mario Party and Mario and Sonic are not alike (Party and M&S being the closest match)
Wheras the PS3 list is kind of diverse, but a number of games are more identical to each other than in the Wii list (2 Fifa games, 2 PES, 2 CoD) and some may have different characters, but are otherwise still quite similar.

Regarding you prediction... it is mere happenstance that the PS3 has currently got more than half the millionsellers the Wii has, partly the timing of certain games, partly it bein Christmas when big games sell well (Wii games sell throughout the year) partly because VGC is not totally accurate in terms of total software figures.
Up till September 2008 we have shipment data for both consoles software, the Wii had shipped just short of 230 million software units, and the PS3 just over 115 million..... this trend of Wii = PS3 X2 has continued since launch, and is showing no signs of stopping.
