I think variety sells systems. The hardcore gamers will most likely have most systems anyway. And the hardcore make up maybe 20 million people at most.

So then the rest goes down to the rest of the people and what they like. All these so called great exclusives that come out for 360 and PS3 are all games in the EXACT same genre as many of the other games that are already out for that system.

So if Joe Smoe hasn't boughten the system yet for all the other FPS why would he finally be like OMG Killzone 2. Sure you may sway over some of that 20 million that own the other system and not a PS3 yet.

But the average person is looking and some may be like "ooh a scooby doo game" "ooh a barbie game" "a nerf game" and so on. The PS2 had all of these millions of Shovelware as you say. But there were people that saw those games as games that THEY wanted to play.

Heck i'm a One Piece fan, and there are only One Piece games on the Wii, so if i want to play them i have to get a Wii. Same was with DBZ for a while.

So Exclusives sell systems, but shovelware exclusives in YOUR HARDCORE eyes.
