FFXII was fantastic, imo, I put 120 hours into it, and collected all the ultimate weapons/summons...

Hmm... I see u as a very intelligent poster Zen, but a serious question:

do you disagree with everyone just for the sake of it?

No sir, but I see how it might seem that way sometimes.

There are certain, few games, that are never really "understood" by a mass audience. FFVIII and FFXII are two of them. If you like either one of them, you should realize that the other has similar characteristics as far as the "game flow" is concerned.(for instance, in FFVIII, the best technique will always rely on playing till endgame without leveling up at all, usually at critical health, and relying entirely on limit breaks for every battle).

When we start these games, we're so confused and overwhelmed, that we hate them(because we don't understand them, if we realize it or not). It pisses us off. It's not a fun experience, being confused and/or uninformed. A second playthrough, however, this time armed with knoweldge, is what can help us experience these rare gems for the masterpieces that we really always knew they must be.

Nobody really hated FFXII. It just pissed them off. It became something totally different than they expected, and they never understood it, nor will they, because they no longer care.

The games where quality is not readily apparent, are often times the best ones and usually the deepest.

Yeah, I agree.  I had to start over with FFXII around 3-4 hours in to actually understand what was going on.  I usually play games, especially RPGs, twice cause of having more experience, though I used to think it was for understanding the story more.  Might've just blown my mind with this post Zen, kudos to that.  ;D

Thank you sir. I thought it was inciteful at the time of its writing.

Well I think it's a load of... er... something nice that's appropriate to say on the forums.

FFXII had nothing to get! That was its problem.  It was extremely simple.  It had no plot, no character development, and a combat system that could be mastered by a toddler with severe brain damage.  Not only that, but you didn't have to use the combat system.  If you have a quarter of a brain you can set up gambits well enough to play the game without even picking up the controller in combat. Maybe a couple times on boss fights.

Wait, wasn't that part of the fun? Finding that special Gambit combination that would make your guys invincible? I know it took around 40 hours or more to get all the magics I needed to never touch the controller again (revive, hastega, barrier, etc.) and even go against hunts (those missions with monsters you have to kill, some of them were damn hard!) that would be impossible at very low levels? So the game was still a game before those 40 hours.

I have to admit that I was expecting a better ending though... I mean, after playing the game for a full week (I wasn't even done 60% of it too), you had to expect something better!

Random game thought :
Why is Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 getting so much hate? We finally get a real game and they're not even satisfied... I'm starting to hate the gaming community so f****** much...
