It appears there are way more Gamecube-titles that have passed the 250k, 500k or even 1 million bar then suggested on VGChartz. This is partially due to incomplete data which VGChartz is not to blame for! I just wanted to point this out to show that GC software was not that big of a failure and to show you can't just 'take for granted' this incomplete data in some cases.
Some quotes to back my claims of Gold/Platinum status up;
IGN: 'The Nintendo GameCube version of Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance sold 250,000 units, which qualified it for the Player's Choice standard. In total, Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance has sold through more than two million units worldwide since its release in November 2002'.
Wikipedia: 'label is also applied to Nintendo Gamecube games that sold more than 250,000 copies'.
As such, it means a title must have exceeded sales of 250k in a specific region (PAL, NTSC etc...) to qualify for the 'Player's Choice' label. Some games however, for example, The Legend Of Zelda: Twilight Princess. Or Mario Kart: Double Dash. Were not granted the player's choice status due to their legs and continuing ability to sell decent amounts of software because of their 'status' and/or quality. An economic decision, as such.
However; if we look at the list of Nintendo Gamecube's Player's choice games we can see a lot of games were more succesful then suggested. This, because of the above explained economic decisions by Nintendo to not include several games, means this list should be taken as an absolute minimum as for the number of Gold/Platinum games.
Without furter ado, the list:
Nintendo GameCube
NTSC exclusive:
That's A LOT more succes then some might think!
Discuss! Or give a reaction.
* Not trying to take VGChartz for a spin here or something. I know, you know, and they know some of their games have missing sales-data. Which is totally understandable and I mean nothing by this. Just trying to show people by a simple way of putting some logical things together how some software actually sold on Gamecube.
