Sorry, have you heard of Gran Turismo 5 and Final Fantasy XIII (Japan). Those are the types of games that are already moving some systems and will move loads afterwards. May I also point out that Gears 2 was not a system seller, it was the massive price cut that made the difference.

I would say there are two type of exclusives in terms of moving consoles:

1. The individual system sellers.
This category probably only includes the Mario games, GT, FF, MGS and Halo. These games alone can make somebody buy a console. The sales due to these games will not just happen at launch, but I bet people bought PS3s the holiday before MGS 4 for MGS 4, if it weren't for MGS 4, they would have got the Xbox that holiday

2. The games that add to these
Games like Uncharted are just added reasons to buy the console. Very very few people would just buy the console for the one game, but for the large number of exclusive titles, or just on top of GT or FF or something like that.

It might not have been a system seller but word of mouth is what made this game popular because of the previous entry//which then made a increase of hardware sales for the 360. Price cut on the 360 was another factor but don't leave "word of mouth" out of the equation. Clearly that's the main reason the original Gears of War sold well.

Well I think Gears 2, especially after Halo and G1, is not a system seller on its own. The price cut was the main influence in the purchase, and then gears etc help make sure that the person buys the console.

Well Gears 2 is probably a unique case. The game has had massive advertising both times, and very good word of mouth. There is a good chance the Gears 2 advert did cause the person to buy the game, but I still think the main factor in the purchase was the price tag as said at the end of the advert (well the definitely say the price at the end of the UK ads)

Gears of War was actually one of the major factors in my purchase of the Xbox, but the push of Mass Effect, Ace Combat, Lost Odyssey and the price were also very large contributors

kk, but that wasn't the factor. What's proven is that Gears of War 2 is a sequel of one of the best selling games on the Xbox 360. Factoring in that its selling well----> It's exclusivity alone is what got it in place, 360 price tag, and word of mouth.

And Munkeh111 all those games you listed are good but how many times are PS3 users are going to keep listing games saying this ______ game will increase the PS3 or save the PS3. I'm not meaning to bring that in the equation but just know the PS3 exclusives will not help. It helps to some extent but not nothing major like the 360 or Wii. And example is the JRPG's that are exlusive in Japan. They aren't doing anything to increase sales the same can be said to the PS3 worldwide.
