This and the being able to respond at your leisure, thinking through what you say, and avoiding awkward pauses in conversation. Also acts as a bit of a log for your conversation.
I don't text that often. I keep phone conversations brief and my text message conversations down to like 1-3 texts.
I prefer in-person interaction greatly. Or aim.
