These jobs can be upgraded, too, by collecting resources in the field like wood and metal ore. Bring those back to your home base to spruce up one of the hat huts. This is essential for success, I found. As soon as I upgraded my warrior to his second form, replacing his meager axe with a pike, I had a much easier time plowing through the enemy ranks and capturing the princess. Then, with other folks getting my flank (I was pleasantly surprised by the AI), I carried my fair maiden to the throne and protected her until the countdown to victory was finished. But even though the warrior seemed like the best choice at first, I can see how important it is to make sure you have builders for erecting ladders, catapults, and other important map upgrades.

Sony showed off a new level at CES called Sugar Cove. This pirate-themed level uses massive galleons for bases. The island between the two ships is affected by the tide. Dpending on the water level, a land bridge will appear between the ships that speeds the rescue of a princess. (Water really slows down your squat warriors and wizards.) The amount of real estate to cover in the level felt just right. There are lots of little tricks to discover, like shortcuts and places you can build catapults that launch your dudes closer to the base, and I can see needing a few games on each map in order to really get a feel for all the features. At least each map is symmetrical so you aren't thrown into terrible disadvantage depending on which side of the stage your team controls. The Sugar Cove theme music was appropriately "yo ho ho" and sounded quite good.

According to Sony, the goal is still 32-player online play with full voice chat. If they indeed pull that off, I predict madness -- lots and lots of fat midnight madness with plenty of cursing. Sony also reaffirmed downloadable content for Fat Princess, such as new maps to keep the fresh and full-figured in the months following its release.

Some really interesting maps are shown as well.

These small pics don't really do the game justice. check out the full size pics: http://media.ps3.ign.com/media/142/14266745/imgs_1.html
