resi ain't much about scary anymore so i would say it's like 2 different genres now.
dead space was primarily focused on kinda claustrophobic corridors and shit jumpin out and scaring you. also, u hardly see many enemies on the screen at once. Resi is like a run and gun with droves of zombies coming at you.
