If a little more description will help.

In my view, Bioshock is an average FPS with an amazing setting and atmosphere, which translates into an overall spectacular game. It was the visuals, the environment, and background story that made the game for me.

Mass Effect has a more engaging active story. I really enjoyed the world of Mass Effect. The different alien races, the character interactions, the story that affects the entire galaxy and is only the beginning of the story that will be the trilogy. The shooter aspect to it is also kinda average TPS, but I do enjoy the outfitting all the characters and the rpg element of leveling and customizing their stats and choosing what combination makes the best team.  It does have some kinda mundane side quests, but I was happy to do them all, just to be spending more time playing the game.

If you are looking for more play time for your money, Mass Effect certainly will last longer. But again, I highly highly recommend just getting them both.
