Mass Effect question

I barely ever finish games these days, and I have played through Mass Effect in its entirety four times and will doubtless play it again. It is also the only non-XBLA game in which I have completed all of the achievements.

Increasing the difficulty level will also affect your game experience during subsequent playthroughs (I believe Hardcore is unlocked upon finishing the game once, and Insanity upon finishing Hardcore). I recommend trying it.
