Bioshock is pretty freaking sweet, but in many ways I think System Shock 2 had the better atmosphere/experience. The sense of solitude...let's just say they nailed it.
That being said, as far as the most EPIC? Half-Life, for me seemed to have the best mix of shooter elements, puzzle elements and story experience...even with NO dialogue from the main character this game is still touted as one of the best, and for good reason I believe.
