It's really fucking sad that people don't play videogames to PLAY them anymore; most games are a power-point presentation practically today. Nobody seems to remember what made (and makes) NES games so fun.

Have you played Fire Emblem?  That is a game that has tremendous amounts of storyline, but I feel it still manages to focus on the gameplay aspects of the game.  It is clear that Nintendo understands what gaming is about, its too bad several internet bloggers think a game is no good unless it has high quality cut scenes and advanced shader effects.

@McStorym1, what should Guitar Hero/RockBand score?

As I said, any game without excellent writing and a storyline should not score higher than 5 or 6 at the most. Guitar Hero could easily fit in a storyline if the game creators took the time (up and coming rockstar plot, etc) same for most sports games. Most movies even with decent storylines get burned by critics and that mentality should be applied to games as well. That way game creators may be forced to finally start writing decent storylines which something much needed in the games industry today.

So your saying that a video game is bad if it lacks story?  I didn't realise that games should be focused on story instead of gameplay and fun.  I would much rather play a group GH/RB session than any MGS game.  I'm not trying to say that your ideas are wrong, you enjoy heavy storylines, but the lack of a story line doesn't make a bad game.  So games like GH, sports games, mindless shooters do not need any story to make them entertaining, in fact putting in a story line where it doesn't belong is worse than having no story.

What kind of story could they possibly have in GH/RB, crappy cover band to amazing cover band?
