My first reaction was "Ugly as sin" really I knew almost 0 about the console I wasn't even familiar with what it looked like. (Nintendo up until very recently has sold very very few consoles in my country) Until I looked up that photo.
I hope the first console they released wasn't that purple one because first impressions last! 
The PS2 was ugly, I grant that.. they all were. But it was an understated kinda ugly rather than and overstated kind.
