The PS3 isn't at $299.99, and until it is, any claims about sales are pure speculation, nothing more.

Why do PS3 fans insist that "If the PS3 was selling at [insert dollar amount], it would be wiping the floor with the Wii!"? It's a completely baseless statement.

 Why do they do that?   Reassurance.  It grants them some physchological projection of comfort in their financial decision.  Given that some haven't come to terms with this generations reality yet they feel the need to project suppositions to replace what reality has lacked for them.
