He suggested a famous journalist made such a comment and he stated the PS3 and 360 are far apart (like a generation apart).

For the long run IMO he is right about this (due to the Cell, default harddrive and Blu-Ray). It's overall an interesting interview, like he points out (like I have) that through the Cell the RSX can generate graphics without even touching GDDR3 memory.

This is of course from a hardware perspective, game engines need to be adapted to show this potential.

So what he actually said is worse than what he is being quoted as saying.  Why all the uproar in his defence if you knew that's what he said?

It's just aiming for being more accurate. A lot of misinformation is floating around the internet.

I agree with the statement of the PS3 being far more powerful than the 360. We have seen far more truly malicious and incorrect statements from Microsoft PR.
