@freedquacker: Ehmm... Capitalism is the oldest form of economics since money was invented. I don't think 40 years add so much into the "experience". Basically the biggest difference in the 20th century was the skill to learn to use cheap energy, which made travelling between/across the continents efficient. The next similar step would to learn to produce energy with nuclear fusion.
